Am I Industry-Ready?

Light it convincingly from an invented light source

You can invent a light source and light your subject so believably that viewers accept it without needing reference.

What it is

This combines form lighting, cast shadows, bounce light, and value structure — without copying what you see. You decide the key light's position, strength, and direction, then carry that decision through every plane and object in the scene.

It draws on drawing solid forms in perspective, separating light and shadow cleanly, local value versus illumination, edge control, and material readability. You're no longer asking, "What does the photo do?" but "Given this light setup, what must happen on this surface?"

It also tests whether you can keep invented lighting consistent across characters, props, and environment while protecting your value structure and color scheme as you render. The light has to support the story and composition you chose, not fight them.
