What it is

In 3D, camera placement is literal: you set how high off the ground the camera sits and how much it tilts up or down. This is the digital stand‑in for holding a real camera at eye level, crouching, or lifting it overhead, then tipping it to catch more ground or sky.

You use height and tilt to match the drawing you already have in mind. If your thumbnail shows a low, heroic angle, you place the 3D camera near the floor and tilt it up until the big shapes line up with your sketch. For an overhead shot, you move the camera high above the scene, tilt it down, and adjust until the horizon and verticals feel right.

In practice, you slide the camera up and down and nudge the tilt by small amounts, checking the frame against your 2D idea. You learn to read how the horizon climbs or falls in the view, how much floor vs. ceiling you see, and how vertical objects converge as you tip the camera, then lock it when the perspective supports your paint‑over.

Why it matters

If you ignore camera height and tilt, your 3D base will fight your painting. A low‑angle sketch built on a mid‑height camera reads flat instead of heroic. An intended top‑down view with too little tilt won't show enough ground to sell the idea. You end up correcting perspective by hand on a mismatched render, warping buildings and drifting vanishing points. Set the camera with intent, and the block‑in already carries the viewpoint — your paint‑over can focus on design, light, and mood instead of fixing the shot.
