Sculpting navigation
You move around your sculpt on purpose — orbiting, zooming, and framing — instead of getting lost or stuck.
What it is
Sculpting navigation is moving around your digital clay without thinking about it: orbiting, panning, zooming, switching views, and framing what you need — while staying focused on the form, not the controls.
You constantly adjust the view as you sculpt: turning the model to check silhouettes, zooming in for small forms and back out for the whole read, flipping between front, side, and three-quarter views, and snapping back to center if you get disoriented. A couple of inputs are enough to make the model big, centered, and clear.
It also means managing visibility: hiding or isolating parts, toggling wireframe, and switching between cameras or saved views. When 3D supports your 2D work, you can pose the model, match a camera angle to your sketch, and lock in a view to paint over — without fighting the software.
Why it matters
If you can't move around your sculpt confidently, you avoid certain views, miss proportion errors, and overwork one angle while others collapse. You lose track of where you are and waste time getting back to a clear view. Solid navigation turns the model into a reliable reference: you can park the camera at any angle, check forms, grab screenshots, and get back to drawing.
You can check it when
- ✓You can recover from a confusing camera angle in a second or two and get back to a clear, framed view of the whole model.
- ✓You regularly rotate around the sculpt to check it from multiple sides instead of working from one locked angle.
- ✓You can match a rough 2D thumbnail's angle by moving the camera until it lines up.
- ✓You can hide, isolate, or solo parts of the model to focus on problem areas, then return to the full sculpt without losing your place.
