Study practices
Planning, completing, and reviewing focused drawing exercises that target specific weaknesses.
What it is
Study practice turns sketching into focused training. You identify a specific problem, choose an exercise, complete it in sets, and review what changed.
For master studies and memory drawing, you define the lesson or test before you begin. You may study a master's simplification, line economy, or head construction, or test your memory of large shapes, tilt, and proportion.
You keep studies small and repeatable. You may set a time limit, restrict the tools or values, and repeat the same subject before changing subjects.
Why it matters
Focused study gives each session a specific purpose. Weak practice can repeat proportion or lighting problems without showing whether an exercise helps.
You can check it when
- ✓State the purpose of each study session in one sentence.
- ✓Complete studies in small, repeatable sets, such as several master copies or memory drawings.
- ✓Compare results with the reference or earlier attempts, then adjust the next study based on what you observe.
- ✓Track one recurring weakness for at least 1 week and identify improvement in newer drawings.
Sub-skills
- Master studies (copying skilled work to extract lessons)
- Memory drawing (observe, then draw without the reference)
