Design variations rather than copying reference
Combine references into original prop, character, or environment designs that fit a brief, world, and story.
What it is
Use reference to study real forms, mechanisms, shapes, materials, and style cues. Combine details from multiple sources to design props, characters, or environments for a brief.
The design also uses drawing from imagination, perspective, lighting, material rendering, and composition. It should remain structurally sound, read as more than a flat symbol, and fit the world, character, or setting of the project.
You can check it when
- ✓Show your reference sheet beside the design. Identify what you kept, changed, and invented to fit the brief.
- ✓Compare the design with each reference. Check that its shapes, proportions, and details serve its function, story, and world without reproducing any single source.
