Am I Industry-Ready?

Communicating clearly at intended viewing size

The ability to make an illustration read clearly at its intended size and format in print or on screen.

What it is

Check the illustration at its actual viewing size, such as a small app icon, trading card, full-page spread, or social thumbnail. Judge the image from that view, not only at 100% to 200% zoom.

Choose the subject scale, pose, and silhouette with the final size in mind. Group or simplify small props into readable shapes, and give key story elements enough room to remain legible when reduced.

Simplify value shapes, color groups, and edge detail so they hold together at output size. Place text, logos, and UI elements where they remain legible, and account for cropping, gutters, overlays, and safe-area margins.

Why it matters

The image must retain its subject, story, and important information at the size where it will appear. Weak control can make faces unreadable, type too small, details noisy, and key story elements difficult to find.
