Flipping/rotating the canvas to check for errors

Flip or rotate the canvas to spot drawing, proportion, perspective, and composition errors that are easy to miss in one view.

What it is

Flipping or rotating the canvas gives you a fresh view of the image. A horizontal flip or a 90 to 180 degree rotation can reveal tilted eyes, leaning buildings, stretched limbs, uneven spacing, and awkward tangents.

Use accessible shortcuts to check the canvas during painting. Identify specific issues, return to the working orientation, and correct them. Keep the canvas flipped briefly when reviewing larger composition or symmetry decisions.

A flipped view can feel unfamiliar at first. Check for observable, fixable problems before making changes.

Why it matters

Regular checks help you notice structural problems before they become harder to correct. Weak control can leave skewed heads, drifting perspective, or unbalanced compositions unaddressed.
