What it is

Combine drawing, perspective, and design skills to invent a subject, place it in space, identify what matters, and arrange the image around it.

Use value, color, focal points, and edge choices to establish large light and dark shapes, color contrasts, and a readable main area in a rough or small version.

Under a deadline or brief constraint, generate several layout ideas from imagination, select one, and preserve its structure as you refine the image.

You can check it when

• ✓Thumbnail views or heavily blurred versions of your finished pieces still show the focal point, main action, and basic subject.
• ✓In a sketch, you can rearrange or remove characters, props, and background elements to improve the read, with a stated compositional reason for each change.
