Head in any position (rotation, tilt, perspective)
Constructing a solid head from any angle while keeping its structure consistent in perspective.
What it is
You place the head at different angles, including up, down, turned away, and three-quarter back views. The skull has thickness, with volume behind the face and a connected neck.
You combine rotation, tilt, and nodding while keeping the features on the curved head surface. The jaw, ears, and back of the cranium stay in their correct zones, even when part of the face is hidden.
You apply perspective to the head from construction through a finished drawing or painting. The near side appears larger, the far side smaller, and the center, eye, and brow lines wrap around the form.
Why it matters
This skill supports varied camera angles and consistent head construction across drawings. Weak control can make features slide, jaws detach, or the head flatten when it tilts or turns.
You can check it when
- ✓Draw the same head in at least 8 distinct angles, including turns, tilts, and combinations, and check that it reads as one three-dimensional skull.
- ✓Wrap the center and eye lines around the head in strong upshots, downshots, and other views. Check that the cranium, jaw, ears, and neck remain connected and proportioned.
