Variation (body types, heroic, stylized)
Draw varied body types, including heroic and stylized designs, with consistent structure and proportions.
What it is
You draw a range of body shapes, including stocky, lanky, soft, wiry, muscular, bulky, and highly idealized heroic builds. Each figure keeps a readable structure and proportion.
You choose where to exaggerate. A heroic figure may have a longer torso, wider shoulders, a smaller head, enlarged muscles, and minimized body fat. A cute stylized character may have a larger head, simplified limbs, and rounded forms. You repeat these choices across poses.
You vary proportions by body region as well as overall size. Examples include a thicker waist with slim limbs, heavy thighs with narrow shoulders, or a broad ribcage with small hips. Clothing, gesture, and facial features support the same body design.
Why it matters
This skill helps you create casts with distinct body types and maintain a character’s design across poses, angles, and scenes. Weak control can make characters share the same body template or cause heroic and stylized proportions to shift between drawings.
You can check it when
- ✓Redraw the same character with lean, average, bulky, and heroic proportions while preserving the character’s identity and basic structure.
- ✓Create a lineup with distinct silhouettes and body types in neutral poses and similar clothing.
- ✓Show a chosen stylization level, such as heroic, semi-realistic, or cartoony, consistently across multiple poses and angles.
