Accessory design and costume callouts
Design accessories and annotate costume callouts so another artist or 3D team can reproduce the outfit without guessing.
What it is
Accessory design covers the parts added to a costume, such as belts, bags, jewelry, holsters, gadgets, badges, hair ornaments, gloves, boots, and trims. You define their shape, motif, placement, and attachment.
Costume callouts are annotated drawings that explain these decisions. Show the outfit and accessories from clear views, with close-ups for small or complex parts. Mark buckles, clasps, straps, fasteners, stitching, and overlaps.
A character sheet may include extra pages for gear details, such as how a belt breaks down, what hangs from it, how a bag opens, or what an emblem looks like up close. These pages support accurate reproduction by another illustrator or 3D artist.
Why it matters
Clear accessory designs and callouts help keep small costume parts consistent across drawings and production steps. Weak documentation can lead to missing or changing details, invented solutions, and repeated clarification or revision.
You can check it when
- ✓Create a callout sheet that lets someone unfamiliar with the character reproduce the full outfit and accessories accurately.
- ✓Show complex items in clean front, side, or back views, with close-ups that specify fasteners, symbols, and small shapes.
- ✓Document how accessories attach to the body or clothing, and how they open, close, or move when the character bends or runs.
- ✓Use reusable accessory and symbol designs that remain consistent across multiple drawings and outfits.
